Dental injuries are the most common type of orofacial injury sustained during participation in sports. If you or your child are involved in any contact sport, custom made mouth guards protect you, your team or your child from dental injuries. Every athlete involved in a contact sport has about 10% chance per season of an orofacial injury. Getting a mouthguard specially made for you is the first step into protecting your teeth and gums, especially for those who have orthodontic appliances. Whether you’re a child or an adult, at Deeragun Dental we are more than happy to make a mouthguard specially to suit your mouth.

Types of Mouth Guards
Stock mouth guards come pre-formed and ready to wear. Although they’re the least expensive, they are also the worst fitting and least comfortable or protective. These pre-formed guards can be bulky, increase the tendency to gag, and make breathing and talking difficult because they require the jaw to be closed to hold them in place.
Mouth-formed mouth guards can be either a shell liner or a boil-and-bite kind. The first type is lined with acrylic gel or rubber that moulds to the teeth and sets to keep its shape. The second type, made of thermoplastic, is placed in boiling water, then formed and moulded to the contours of the teeth using the fingers, lips, tongue and biting pressure. While they do provide a better fit than stock mouth guards, they can be bulky and do not offer the same fit and protection as a custom-fitted mouth guard.
